Professor James Bannister is chair of the Department of Accounting and Taxation. He received his undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Delaware and his doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988. He has previously taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has published articles in many journals including Accounting Horizons, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Journal of International Financial Management and Accounting, and Managerial and Decision Economics.

Professor Bannister's research interests include:

  • Impact of corporate structure, governance, and management contracts on strategic decisions and firm performance.
  • Earnings management via accounting accruals and other discretionary reporting choices.
