Praised by The New York Times as a saxophonist who is “...making the connections among about 70 years’ worth of contemplative, articulate and light-toned players,” Alex LoRe has become one of the most compelling alto saxophonists and composers on today’s New York music scene. A student of jazz luminaries Bunky Green, Lee Konitz, and George Garzone, LoRe developed a voice defined by warmth, clarity, and sophistication. His music draws from a wide spectrum of influences—from contemporary classical repertoire to modern jazz and popular styles—reflecting a curiosity and openness that continue to shape his artistic path. He has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
As a bandleader, LoRe has released five acclaimed albums and contributed to more than two dozen others as a sideman, collaborating with a diverse range of artists and continually expanding his musical narrative. He is a recipient of both Chamber Music America Artistic Projects and South Arts Jazz Road grants, and in 2021 published a jazz duet book alongside a complete adaptation of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations for saxophone duos, trios, and quartets.
A dedicated educator, LoRe teaches with a focus on the individual, nurturing curiosity and fostering authentic artistic growth in each student. Beyond music, his creativity also extends to the kitchen. The son of a Sicilian executive chef, LoRe grew up in his father’s restaurants and remains an avid cook and baker, with passions ranging from Italian and Thai cuisine to sourdough and panettone.
He currently lives in the New York City area and is a Boston Sax Shop endorsed artist.
