Carolyn Paulus, who joined the Hartt theatre division voice faculty in 2008, is also an established voice teacher at The Voice Studios in New York City and in Stamford, CT. In addition, she is a member of the voice faculty at The New Studio on Broadway, part of the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. Ms. Paulus received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Western Illinois University and her master's degree from Indiana University, where she also taught voice. In New York, Ms. Paulus works closely with Joan Lader and teaches students who are performing in a variety of genres including on and off Broadway and in cabarets. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the New York Singing Teachers Association where she continues to hone her teaching skills through their professional development program.

Even though most of Carolyn's students are pursuing musical theatre, her own background is classical voice. She has performed leading roles with companies such as New York City Opera National Tour, Des Moines Opera, Austin Lyric Opera and Opera Ensemble of New York and made her Avery Fisher Hall debut as soprano soloist in Messiah. Over the years Ms. Paulus has been a featured soloist with Armor Artist Baroque Orchestra, Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, Fairfield Orchestra, Mendelssohn Choir, New Jersey Choral Society, Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra and Dallas Chamber Orchestra including pops concerts, one of her specialties. She was awarded recognition for her outstanding vocal abilities in the following New York City competitions: Oratorio Society of New York, YWCA Studio Club and Queens Opera Competition. While living in Chicago, Ms. Paulus performed with the Chicago Lyric Opera, the Chicago Symphony and Chicago Opera Theater.
