Steps to Apply

  1. Complete application to the University of Hartford
  2. Complete and upload Hartt Profile documents on the applicant portal
    1. Hartt School Essay
    2. Resume
    3. Repertoire List (MUSIC APPLICANTS ONLY)
    4. Headshot (DANCE AND THEATRE APPLICANTS ONLY)
    5. Sample Composition (COMPOSITION APPLICANTS ONLY)
  3. Artistic Letters of Recommendation – Two (2) letters should be sent by the recommender to The Hartt School Admission Office 
  4. Audition/Interview for program faculty
    1. Auditions and interviews will be scheduled after completion of the University application and upload of all Hartt documents

Please note: Applicants may also choose to submit audition and profile materials through Acceptd. This requires a fee to be paid to Acceptd directly. Applicants must still submit a complete application to the University of Hartford to be considered for acceptance.

  1. Complete an application to the University of Hartford
  2. Complete an audition and interview*. All applicants will have an interview within their major’s department or with their audition panel. Applicants to all graduate music education programs will also complete a brief music skills assessment test.
  3. Submit supporting documents within two weeks of applying:
    1. Letter of Intent
    2. Performance/Professional Resume
    3. Repertoire list: Required for all auditioning applicants
    4. Preliminary Video and Portfolio Submission
    5. Three letters of recommendation
    6. Transcripts from all higher education institutions attended
    7. $90 fee ($50 application fee + $40 audition/interview fee)

November 2026 

  • Sunday, November 1: Early Action Dance Auditions

December 2026 

  • Sunday, December 13: On-Campus Early Action & Graduate Music Auditions
    • Includes: All Instruments and Voice
    • Excludes: Music Theatre (MT), Actor Training (AT), or Dance

Regular Decision Dates

January 2027 

  • Saturday, January 23 (On-Campus):
    • Auditions: Dance Performance, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Classical Guitar, Harp, Piano, Commercial Music (all instruments/voice), Classical Voice.
    • Interviews: Composition, Music Education, Music Production & Technology, MuM/PAM, Stage Management, and Technical Theatre.
  • Sunday, January 24 (On-Campus):
    • Auditions: French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Classical Percussion, Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Classical Voice, Jazz (all instruments/voice).
    • Interviews: Composition, Music Education, Music Production & Technology, MuM/PAM, Stage Management, and Technical Theatre.

February 2027

  • Saturday, February 13 (On-Campus):
    • Auditions: French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Saxophone, Classical Percussion, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Classical Voice, Jazz (all instruments/voice), All Theatre Auditions.

  • Sunday, February 14 (On-Campus):
    • Auditions: Dance, Classical Guitar, Harp, Piano, Commercial Music (all instruments/voice), Classical Voice, Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, All Theatre Auditions.
    • Interviews: Composition, Music Education, Music Production & Technology, MuM/PAM, Stage Management, Technical Theatre, and All Theatre Interviews.
  • Monday, February 15 (Virtual and On-Campus)
    • On-Campus Auditions:
    • Virtual Auditions: Music Theatre, Actor Training.
    • Virtual Interviews: Composition, Music Education, Music Production & Technology, MuM/PAM, Stage Management, and Technical Theatre.
  • Saturday, February 27 (On-Campus): Music Theatre and Actor Training Auditions.
  • Sunday, February 28 (On-Campus): Music Theatre and Actor Training Auditions.

In order to audition, students must apply to the University of Hartford.  Each discipline has different requirements for the audition.  Once an applicant has submitted their application to the University of Hartford, they will receive an email to register for an on-campus audition/interview.* 

*Applicants applying for programs that require a prescreen will not be able to register for an audition until they have successfully passed their prescreen process.

Early Action Timeline

  • Sunday, November 1, 2026: Early Action Applications Due
  • Sunday, November 1, 2026: Early Action Dance Auditions Due
  • Sunday, December 13, 2026: Live Audition Date
  • *Please note that Early Action at the Hartt School is not available for the BFA in Music Theatre, BFA in Actor Training or Graduate Program applicants. 

Pending receipt of application and audition materials, students can expect an admission decision in January 2027. The Hartt School is now offering this non-binding Early Action audition opportunities to our undergraduate applicants.

Regular Decision Timeline

  • Tuesday, December 1, 2026: All Prescreens Due
  • Monday, February 1, 2027: Graduate Applications Due
  • Monday, February 15, 2027: Undergraduate Applications Due*

*Applications submitted after the respective program deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis. Please contact harttadm@hartford.edu to inquire about space availability for late applications. No late prescreens will be reviewed.

Scholarships

At Hartt, all accepted students are considered for scholarship with awards ranging up to full tuition. Scholarships are renewable annually for the length of the program to which the student was admitted. Students may apply for need-based financial aid by filing the FAFSA
