Keeping Hawks Healthy

Campus Life & Events

Connections outside of the classroom—with friends, roommates, colleagues, classmates, clubs and organizations—are all an important part of the overall UHart experience.

Life on Campus

Our student life and success teams continue to research and develop new and exciting ways to enable you to safely engage and interact with one another. When you come to campus, you will notice many more outdoor gathering spaces. We added tents, picnic tables, and many chairs to give you a safe space to spend time with your friends.

Clubs and Organizations

Some club meetings and activities can happen in person when it is possible to follow social distancing and other safety guidelines. Other meetings and activities will be virtual. The Office of Student Engagement and Inclusion will work with club and other student leaders on their plans. When meeting in person, students will need to follow strict guidelines. Please see the policy for more specific information about reserving space, or contact with questions.

Club Sports, Intramurals, and SGA Performance Groups

To keep our students healthy and safe, club sports, intramurals, and SGA performance groups will not be able to practice, compete, or perform this academic year.

Members may still gather for meetings by following the guidance found here. Clubs that have traditionally held in-person practices/rehearsals should contact the Office of Student Engagement and Inclusion at for consideration and potential approval of in-person events. Each request will be handled on a case-by-case basis and will depend on the nature of the activity.

Sports Center

The Sports Center will open its second-floor fitness facility to undergraduate student. Weekday hours will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 9 p.m. The facility will close from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday to allow for deep cleaning and sanitization procedures. Weekend hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Due to the potential high rate of virus transmission, membership locker rooms will be closed this semester as will indoor and outdoor courts. Towels and locks will not be available. The pool will not be open this semester.

Masks will be required in the building at all times. There will be a door thermometer at the entrance to serve as a temperature check. Also in place will be a monitoring system that will help Sports Center staff track capacity limits within the fitness center in accordance with Connecticut state guidelines.

The University will not be hosting any public events this fall.

Most events will be virtual, but there are some events that can be outdoors, if social distancing is possible and crowd size limits are followed. Attendance and participation in events will be limited to members of the UHart community.

Admission Events and Campus Tours

We know it is is important for families to visit campus before students officially commit to attend. We are excited to offer limited on-campus tours. Following the guidelines from our governor and the CDC, these will be mainly outdoor walking tours, and will limit the number of guests, practice social distancing, and require everyone to wear masks at all times.
