Hartford Art School Print Workshop Presents PRESSED: The 40th Anniversary Celebration

September 13, 2018

To mark its 40th anniversary, the Hartford Art School Print Workshop presents PRESSED, a series of four events during the 2018–2019 academic year, including a live auction of prized prints. Annually, for four decades, the Hartford Art School Print Workshop has invited a notable printmaker to campus to produce a limited-edition print alongside HAS students, which remains in the University art collection. All events will be held on the University of Hartford campus, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, Conn.

PRESSED: EXHIBITION – The 40th anniversary exhibition opens with a reception on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Joseloff Gallery. The exhibition features prints from previous printmaking workshops held on campus, and remains on view through Dec. 16 .

PRESSED: CELEBRATION – A formal gala dinner will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Joseloff Gallery. During the dinner, the Hartford Art School Endowment, Inc. and the Hartford Art School printmaking department will host a live auction and sale of prints from its collection to raise funds for future printmaking scholarships. Among the available pieces are rare works by James Rosenquist, Helen Frankenthaler, Alfred Leslie, and Jim Dine. Tickets are required. RSVP at hartford.edu/pressed.

PRESSED: COLLABORATION – The weeklong annual print workshop will be held at the Hartford Art School from April 1–5, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. This year’s guest artist is Sean Caulfield, a Canadian printmaker and professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Alberta. He has exhibited his prints, drawings, and artist’s books throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, and Japan. More information on Sean Caulfield can be found at http://seancaulfield.ca.

PRESSED: CONVERSATION – This panel discussion is on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium. Panelists include artist Sean Caulfield; Fred Wessel, professor emeritus; and Alexandra Onuf, associate professor of art history. The Hartford Art School Print Workshop is funded through the Hartford Art School Endowment, Inc. and through the generosity of The Aeroflex Foundation.
