The College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) would like to congratulate Denise Prussen ’19 and Debbie Vergara ’20 who were recently awarded the Outstanding Civil Engineering Student Awards from the Connecticut Society of Civil Engineers (CSCE) on April 16, 2019. The event was during the CSCE dinner meeting at the Coast Guard Academy.

Denise is serving as President and is a four-year contributor to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student organization at UHart. She has also held other leadership positions, including Secretary and Treasurer, in the organization. Denise participated in the steel bridge competition for three years and is spearheading the current team for the new sustainability competition.

Assistant Professor Ted Sussmann says Denise is a top student and is always willing to go the extra mile in every activity in which she is involved. “Her energy is contagious and she is always encouraging to the group providing a morale boost whenever our teams need it,” says Sussmann.

Debbie currently serves as the Treasurer and is a regular volunteer for every activity ASCE pursues. She is also a top student who is always recommended by her faculty.

Assistant Professor Ted Sussmann says Debbie’s academic capability is obvious in class and her dedication truly shows.

“Debbie is involved in a wide variety of activities, but always seems to have time for ASCE and has participated in the steel bridge competition previously. Debbie is heavily involved with the upcoming sustainability competition,” says Sussmann.

It’s been a pleasure having these two dynamic individuals part of the Civil Engineering program, CETA, and UHart. Join us in congratulating them on this tremendous accomplishment.
