Cameron Diaz ’21

Cameron Diaz '22

Cameron Diaz ’21 is a business management major at the Barney School of Business. She is from Long Island, New York, and is an active member of the women’s club rugby team. Cameron believes that choosing to be on UHart’s rugby team is one of the best decisions she has taken so far. Sharing her experience, she says, “Some of my best college memories were with my team and I can never lose the memories. I would encourage students to get engaged in some way on campus whether it is a club, sports team, fraternity or sorority, or any academic club or group. Having a specific tie to the University makes the experience more worthwhile and long-lasting.”

Over the fall, Diaz had the opportunity to work for the University of Hartford on its incubator project. As an intern, she was in charge of organizing and leading the workshops every week to better students’ ideas. Her internship dealt with the entrepreneurial section, where her contribution was integral to the ideation and execution of the project. During her internship, Diaz says, she was able to improve her leadership skills as her job involved leading many productive discussions. Also, considering this was a remote internship, it helped her improve her virtual skills, which she believes is a valuable asset in this day and age. Working on the project with other interns was a collaborative effort to create a good show.

Diaz emphasizes that the positive influence of her professors and their encouragement have helped her evolve over the years at Barney. She extends her gratitude and says, “I would love to thank Professor Sweeney and Dr. Lofink for giving me this opportunity to learn something new and make an impact on the University of Hartford. I would also like to thank ReSet for their contribution towards our project and adding their insights where they thought appropriate.” She also thanks Professor Matacin and adds, “Professor Matacin cares so much about her students succeeding, as well as their mental health on a daily basis. It is great that she has been in my life during a very difficult time for all of us.”

“My biggest achievement is that I have led an event/course that will be a part of the University for many years. I am happy that I was able to lay the groundwork for an experience that many individuals can enjoy.” Going forward, Diaz wants to start her own business and provide employment and a new lease on life for people working with her.

Barney has been a great addition to my life. It has helped me learn more about the business world and it specially prepared me for life after college. I love how prepared I feel about job searches and future interviews that will be presented to me very soon.
