For Sydney Lenig ‘27, a Barney School of Business student pursuing a degree in business analytics and managerial economics with a minor in digital marketing, understanding business means looking at both the numbers and the people behind them.
Sydney has embraced opportunities at the Barney School to explore career paths, connect with industry professionals, and develop the skills she needs to succeed. Her interdisciplinary studies allow her to examine business from multiple perspectives, combining analytical thinking with an understanding of consumer behavior. “I love seeing both the analytical and consumer side of business,” Sydney says. “Studying both business analytics and marketing gives me a very full picture of how businesses run.”
One of Sydney’s favorite aspects of UHart is the close-knit campus community. At a smaller university, she has been able to build meaningful relationships with classmates and professors while connecting with students across campus.
At Barney, those relationships extend beyond the classroom. Sydney appreciates learning from professors who share their professional experiences and offer advice as she considers her future career. She also credits the school’s emphasis on career readiness with helping her identify potential roles and discover opportunities she may not have otherwise considered.
“Getting to visit different companies and hear firsthand about the roles there really demonstrated how many different career opportunities were out there,” she emphasizes. Networking events and career workshops have further helped Sydney prepare for life after graduation, giving her opportunities to explore industries, connect with professionals, and envision her next steps.
Her experience working for the business school has also provided valuable professional development. Through interacting with prospective students and their families, Sydney has strengthened her leadership and communication skills while helping others discover what Barney has to offer.
After graduating in spring 2027, Sydney plans to begin a full-time role with Pratt & Whitney through one of the company's leadership development programs. She also intends to pursue her master's degree, continuing to build on the academic and professional foundation she has established at UHart.
Sydney's path reflects the value of combining classroom learning with hands-on experiences, mentorship, and career exploration. By taking advantage of the opportunities available through Barney, she has gained a clearer understanding of her interests and the confidence to pursue a career that brings together her analytical and business skills.
Beyond academics and career preparation, Sydney stays involved in campus life as a member of the women's rugby team and The Women Advancement Initiative’s LEAD program. Through her involvement across campus, she has found ways to develop personally and professionally while building connections that enrich her college experience.
As she looks toward graduation and the start of her career at Pratt & Whitney, Sydney is ready to put her education, leadership experience, and passion for understanding business into practice.
