Zewen Xu ’21

Zewen Xu ’21, is a senior management major at the Barney School of Business. He is also an international student from China. This summer, he decided to take an internship back in his hometown with Shaanxi Changyin Consumer Finance Co. During the course of his internship, Zewen rotated among two departments: human resources and business development, where he managed the competitive product analysis report, product requirements document, and the App homepage revision report. He also helped conduct market research.

“The purpose of an internship is to find a career direction you like,” Zewen says. “It is a good experience to try several internships when you are a student. The internship gave me the first valuable work experience in my life, and believe that an internship is an experience that every college student should have.”

I am grateful for professors in the Barney School, I have learned a lot in the new country and a new culture.

The most meaningful part of the internship, Zewen explains, goes far beyond earning credits.  “The significance of this internship is no longer a task of completing credits or completing a graduation requirement for me,” he says, “but it’s more like a chance to step into society and apply our learning to real-world settings. In every little thing during the internship, we can experience various events that we will often encounter in the future, such as interpersonal relationships, opportunities, evaluation, competition, success, and failure.”

As a result of Zewen’s performance, the department leader offered him the opportunity to return to the company after graduation. As he likes the company and his team a lot, Zewen accepted the offer and will begin in his new role next year.
