Alyssa Viscardo ‘22, was inspired to study at the Barney School due to her initial passion for economics. Specifically, she was drawn to analytics. Due to her astounding work ethic, she will graduate this upcoming Winter with her business analytics and managerial economics degree. Alyssa’s hard work in the classroom earned her a job opportunity for post-graduation at KPMG.

Internship Experience

Alyssa distinguished herself among competitors and landed an internship position at KPMG, where she worked as a Technology Assurance intern. She learned what a typical workday would look like in the future and got to visualize what working at a big four firm is actually like. “One of the most important skills I gained was how to network in the real world and make connections with my colleagues”, Alyssa explains.

What was her biggest takeaway from this experience? “My biggest takeaway is to take risks and to not be afraid to ask questions, it is important to speak up in an internship because it is how you learn and grow”.

Barney Guidance

This internship opportunity was made accessible through actively seeking guidance from Barney’s various resources. During her career peer mentor role at the office of career and professional development, she became overwhelmingly confident in her resume and interviewing skills. “They gave insight on what I could add or take off from my resume and gave me some security in it. For my interview, I was able to get some advice and have some face time with companies through resume boot camps”, Alyssa adds. It was clear to her how this preparation and guidance would make an impact on her interviewers.

Aside from academics, Alyssa opened her schedule up to the various opportunities that the University had to offer.  She spent time working as a career peer mentor, assisted fellow students by tutoring, participated in the Q-Squared Project, and was a member of the official women’s softball team.

Post-Graduation

After graduation, Alyssa plans to move back home and begin her full-time position at KPMG. She will be working out of the Philadelphia office in their audit department as a Technology Assurance Associate.

UHart gave me the tools that helped shape the opportunities that I have today. Without the support from my professors and peers I wouldn’t have been able to be where I am today.
