Digital Media and Journalism major Caitlin Topping ’23 secured a position before graduation with Enjet Aero, an aerospace component manufacturer in Manchester, Connecticut. Caitlin says she will apply the communication skills she acquired at UHart to her role as an administrative assistant that supports company management and the organization’s estimating team. “I plan on taking advantage of the skills I learned in my public relations classes and applying them to my current job,” which she says includes learning how to be an effective problem solver.

Caitlin transferred to UHart in her third year of college and says she found a place where she could fit in and explore her interest in communication. She says her favorite part of the University is the community and how everyone supports each other. “I think all my professors had an impact in my success. They helped me believe and myself and find my voice.”

One of the ways she was able to apply her passion for communications, is by working at UHart’s student-run agency Crested Communications with Assistant Professor of Communication Sarah Miner. Students gain real-world experienced in Crested Communications by producing public relations, advertising, and branding campaigns for real clients in the greater Hartford area and beyond. “Learning more about LinkedIn from Professor Miner helped me understand how to promote myself for future employers,” says Caitlyn. She also credits the career preparation course that all College of Arts and Sciences students take with giving her a fresh prospective on her resume.
