Student Returns to UHart to Pursue a Master of Arts in Communication

Kadean Brown

Kadean Brown '16 M’24 is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Communication to build upon her undergraduate studies in communication. The academic journey that Kadean has been on while at UHart has helped to prepare her for an everchanging landscape in the corporate world. Through cross collaboration with other courses, including within the Master of Science in Organizational Psychology (MSOP), Kadean has diversified her learning in areas beyond Communication alone.

Kadean is not new to the UHart community having completed her undergraduate degree as a transfer student from Jamaica. Six years later, she came back to pursue her master’s degree. As a non-traditional student, she initially had reservations about juggling going back to school, while also managing two young children and several different responsibilities, but she has been able to juggle it all, in part thanks to the support she receives from her professors and resources that the University provides. In fact, she is thriving as a straight A student, and part-time graduate assistant in the graduate admission office. Outside of her studies, Kadean is a per diem substitute teacher while pursuing her degree full-time. She says the key to success is time management and open communication.

Reflecting on her time at UHart, Kadean says “I've had an amazing time at UHart! I started as a transfer student from Jamaica to finish my bachelor's degree, and I came back six years later to earn my master's degree. The University of Hartford has a very inclusive environment and there are great resources for just about anything! Throughout my graduate program, I've become even more engaged, and I've had the pleasure of attending some alumni events before I came back as a student, so I've always remained a part of the UHart community. I'm a true advocate for the University of Hartford!
