Sophie Turner ’26, an architectural design + technology major in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA), has been able to blend her passions for engineering with art and design, calling the program “a perfect combination of both.”
What Sophie enjoys most about being a student at the University of Hartford is the community and events that bring students together, in addition to her architecture courses. On campus, she is the President of the Women in Architectural Design, a member of the American Institute of Architecture Students, and a participant in the Leadership Education and Development program.
Over the summer, Sophie worked as an intern for Oak Point Associates, an architecture firm, and is continuing to work with them during the academic year at their Connecticut location. Her favorite part of this internship was learning from her mentors, being on-site for projects, and seeing the designs she helped work on come to life. “This internship has prepared me for my future career by introducing me to every step of the architectural process, from initial design to construction,” she explains.
Sophie adds that CETA has helped prepare her for a career by teaching her the technical skills she needs to advance in her studies and career path. After graduation, she plans to pursue her master’s in architecture and ultimately become a licensed architect. Outside of campus, Sophie enjoys traveling, hiking, snowboarding, and running.
