For Isabella Caye ’27, studying management at the Barney School of Business is about more than understanding how companies operate; it’s about preparing for a future where business strategy and law intersect.

Inspired by her interest in leadership, organizational strategy, and problem solving, Isabella chose to major in management to build a strong foundation for her long-term goal of practicing corporate law. After earning her undergraduate degree, she plans to pursue an MBA at the University of Hartford before attending law school.

“I enjoy learning how effective management decisions can shape a company’s success,” Isabella says. “Combining management with legal training will allow me to help organizations navigate corporate governance, compliance, and complex business issues.”

Throughout her time at UHart, Isabella has immersed herself in leadership opportunities and campus involvement that have strengthened both her professional and personal growth. As membership chair of the Barney Leadership Council, she has helped organize professional development events and foster student engagement across the college. Isabella has also been actively involved in The Women Advancement Initiative’s Leadership Education and Development program in addition to the Women in Business club, experiences that have helped her build confidence, leadership abilities, and networking skills.

“My favorite thing about UHart is the strong sense of community and the opportunities to connect with both peers and professionals outside the classroom,” she explains. “The events and networking opportunities through the Barney Leadership Council have been especially meaningful because they helped me grow professionally while building confidence.”

In addition to her campus involvement, Isabella has gained valuable workplace experience through a role at the Center for Student Success. This summer, she is beginning a customer service internship with Waste Management, where she looks forward to strengthening her communication and customer service skills while learning more about professional operations and teamwork.

“The skills I gained at UHart through leadership roles, group projects, and campus involvement have helped prepare me for professional environments,” Isabella emphasizes. “I’ve become more confident communicating with others, staying organized, and working collaboratively.”

Isabella credits many of her experiences at UHart, especially the connections she made through the Barney Leadership Council, with helping shape her career goals and professional development. Through networking events, guest speakers, and mentorship opportunities, she gained insight into different industries and learned the value of building professional relationships early.

As she continues preparing for a future in corporate law, Isabella encourages incoming students to embrace every opportunity available to them.

“Get involved early and take advantage of everything UHart offers,” she advises. “Joining clubs, attending events, and building relationships with professors can really shape your experience. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone—that’s where a lot of growth happens.”

The skills I gained at UHart through leadership roles, group projects, and campus involvement have helped prepare me for professional environments. I’ve become more confident communicating with others, staying organized, and working collaboratively.
