Sign Up for the September Compass 101 Training Sessions

All faculty and staff who work with students are encouraged to sign up for one of the September Compass 101 training sessions.  In this session you will learn how to access and navigate Compass, create your profile, share office hours and appointments with students, create and close flags, generate Kudos, and create advising notes on students. This system will be our primary method for early alerts, progress reports, and communication among advisors and faculty. Compass integrates with Blackboard and students will have access to many of the features, such as making appointments and “raising a hand”. We are no longer using the Student Success Collaborative.

Why Another Platform? Why Compass?

The name Compass symbolizes the many aspects of a student's journey, such as how faculty and staff help navigate and guide students to achieve their end goals and reach their final destination.

 

Criticisms of Student  Success Collaborative	Solutions with Compass
Students are not on the platform.	Students have access to the platform.
Only advisors get the comments  on the alerts.	Flags raised by instructors (with comments) go directly to the student  and the advisor.
Not knowing who was supposed  to close the loop.	Flags should be closed by the advisor  (or instructor when appropriate).
Reporting necessary to determine status of alerts.	Dashboard provides list of open flags  from instructor and advisor view.
Updating course information not available with advisors meet with students and families.	Starfish integrates with Blackboard so  all grades are available.
You can’t give positive feedback.	Positive feedback can be provided through Kudos.
Lack of customization for  individual institutions.	We can improve and make changes to  the platform based on what works for us.
