Ceramic artist Chotsani Elaine Dean '98 presents "Building A Trading Post," part of the annual Auerbach Lecture Series, on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 2:30 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Dean's most recent work, which she will discuss during the lecture, is informed by her curiosity and research on historical trading posts, including the trading post of the city of Hartford. Trading Post: Exchange and Sojourn, an exhibition she curated, opened in March at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis.

An alumna of the Hartford Art School, Dean was awarded and completed a nine-month Teaching/Research Fulbright Scholar grant in India from 2012 to 2013. She traveled throughout the country, conducting workshops, delivering lectures, and working as an artist-in-residence. In 2014, Dean was the inaugural MJ DO GOOD resident at Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana. She was awarded a Connecticut Arts Grant from the State of Connecticut in 2010.

Dean is currently an assistant professor of art at the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University. She has lectured and exhibited widely throughout the world. She has also served as a juror for Artisphere Artists of the Upstate, Art in Public Spaces for the Connecticut Office of the Arts, committee member for the Connecticut Artists Collection Advisory Committee.

Dean's visit is made possible by The Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation Fund of the Hartford Art School Endowment, Inc.
