The University of Hartford’s partnership with Hartford HealthCare (HHC) was celebrated Wednesday night February 12 with Hartford HealthCare Game night at the Sports Center as the Hartford Hawks Men's Basketball team played UAlbany (and won). A festive atmosphere greeted game-goers in the lobby where they received t-shirts, shopping bags, and “stress” basketballs. Many HHC employees, families, and friends were in attendance as President Gregory Woodward, Hartford HealthCare President and CEO Jeffrey Flaks, and HHC physical therapist and rehab site supervisor Latasha Raineault ’08, DPT ’10 spoke of the partnership at half-time.

“This partnership with Hartford HealthCare is built on our shared vision of excellence in service and education,” said President Woodward. “By unifying all healthcare needs, from student health and wellness to outstanding athletic care, our students’ medical needs and services are professionally coordinated and delivered. Additionally, Hartford HealthCare is committed to providing more experiential learning opportunities in UHart’s health science programs.”

Flaks elaborated, “Through Hartford HealthCare, UHart students will have access to so much more. We are partners in health education—creating the health leaders of tomorrow within world-class facilities like our Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation. Inside our Bone & Joint Institute, student-athletes have access to the unparalleled rehab and training programs at the Center for Musculoskeletal Health. We believe this is just the beginning.”

Raineault, who was an outstanding track and field athlete at UHart, is excited to see what the partnership will bring. “This collaboration provides so many opportunities to students, faculty members, athletes, and the entire University community. From clinical experiences and a potential career path, to individualized patient care and enhanced performance by our athletes, we are embarking on a special journey. It’s a great day to be a Hawk!”

Hartford HealthCare also operates the University’s Student Health Services Center and provides non-emergency after hours care through a phone line staffed by registered nurses. Orthopedists are team doctors for all teams.
