I-SEE Group Virtual Gathering: Dance with Ms. Xi Wang, a Chinese Traditional Dancing Artist

I-SEE, International Scholarship Education and Engagement, is an affinity group among NESTS Groups. Our mission is to be the driving force to initiate and implement all efforts that have an international component to help enhance and expand UHart’s reputation. Our goals are to facilitate international scholarship, education, and engagement.

During this special time, we are so glad to have Ms. Xi Wang, a Chinese dancing artist based in Connecticut, talk to us about the Chinese dance history and demo some Chinese folk dance styles. Join us for a fun session and let’s stretch out together!

What to Expect:

1)    Introduction of the history of Chinese traditional dance. Ms. Wang will introduce the history of Chinese dance ranging from the classical dance in the Han and Tang Dynasties to the contemporary square dance. 

2)    Dancing and stretching together. Ms. Wang will demonstrate and teach some dancing moves and get everyone to stretch and exercise.

3)   Food on my dining table. Please share a picture of food on your dining table to the group during our meeting.

 

Ms. Xi Wang’s Profile:

Ms. Wang began her dance training when she was eight years old.  She was admitted to Yunnan Culture & Arts School after going through the strict and harsh national selection in China. After six years of formal training at this professional school, she earned her seat as a Chinese Traditional Dancer at Yunnan Dance & Singing Theater, one of the most prestigious dance theaters in China. She premiered many leading roles, such as “Ashima” and “Red Soil”, during her thirteen-year tenure with Yunnan Dance Theater. Ms. Wang has represented Chinese Top Artist and visited many countries around the world. She’s currently the founder and master artist of Xi Wang Dance Company teaching Chinese dance throughout the New England area. In 2014, her theatrical dance drama, “Colorful Yunnan”, debuted in the Welt Hall at the Central Connecticut State University. Her students have won numerous regional and national awards in dance.
