Hartt Composition and the Joseloff Gallery are pleased to welcome interdisciplinary artist Audra Wolowiec as the next artist in the Institute of Contemporary American Music (ICAM) series this fall. This event is free and will be presented remotely on Zoom. Members of our campus community are welcome to join our students for this event.

ICAM provides a public forum for distinguished artists to join our campus in conversations at the intersection of contemporary music and art and is being presented with support from The Hartt School and the Hartford Art School Endowment, Inc. Professor Wolowiec will discuss her interdisciplinary approach to working with sound, recent projects, and her publishing platform Gravel Projects. 

Audra Wolowiec is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York whose work oscillates between sculpture, installation, text and performance with an emphasis on sound and the material qualities of language. Wolowiec's work has been shown internationally and in the United States at MASS MoCA, CCS Bard Hessel Museum, Stony Brook University, Art in General, and Studio 10. Readings and events have taken place at The Poetry Project, Microscope Gallery, and Center for Performance Research. Her work has been featured in BOMB Magazine, Modern Painters, The New York Times, The Brooklyn Rail, CAA Journal, and Sound American. Residencies include Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, Complex Systems Art and Physics Residency at the University of Oregon supported by a National Science Foundation Grant, and Dieu Donné. Upcoming events include the group exhibition Acoustic Resonance at ICA at MECA, Maine, and iea (Institute for Electronic Arts) Residency in Visual Arts at Alfred University in Fall 2020. Wolowiec currently teaches at Parsons School of Design, SUNY Purchase, and is founder and director of the publishing platform Gravel Projects.
