Invitation to Read NECHE Self Study Draft

March 01, 2021
Submitted By: Kathleen Neal

The University of Hartford is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). NECHE provides regional accreditation for the university as a whole. This Oct., from the 17 through the 20, a team of peer evaluators from NECHE will conduct our ten-year comprehensive review. In anticipation of this visit, since spring 2019, a Steering Committee and multiple subcommittees have been working to draft our NECHE Self Study. The final self study will be shared with the team of peer evaluators in advance of the Oct. visit.

The self study is our written response to NECHE, demonstrating how the University of Hartford meets the nine NECHE standards. NECHE prescribes the format of the self study, limiting it to 100 pages and requiring a three-part structure for each chapter. Each chapter contains the sections Description, Appraisal and Projections. Description provides a candid presentation of how the University of Hartford meets the standard. Appraisal provides evidence to demonstrate to what extent we meet the standard. Finally, Projections identifies specific commitments the University of Hartford will make to maintain and enhance our performance and address any gaps. Each projection must be related to a NECHE standard, be realistic, and we must demonstrate that we have the capacity to execute the plan. In a few cases, there are additional subheadings within the standard, requiring a repetition of the Description and Appraisal sections. Due to this format requirement, there will be some redundancy in the document.

The current draft of the NECHE Self Study has been posted for your review. All University students, faculty and staff are invited to read a single chapter or the entire document. Please read for content. A professional proofreader will edit the final draft of the Self Study for formatting, consistency and voice. After your review, there is a link at the top of the chapters to a form where you may submit your thoughts and suggestions. All feedback must be submitted by midnight on Sunday, March 14.
