Is social media helping or hurting society?

It's not an easy question to answer, but is the topic of an event hosted by TALK, a Glastonbury-based, non-partisan organization. The Wednesday, May 26, webinar begins at 7 p.m. and will take an in-depth look at how social media is impacting on our lives both positively and negatively and what this could mean for our future.

The event features Applied Associate Professor of Communication Adam Chiara, and Lon Seidman '98, a YouTube tech personality and host and CEO of Lon.TV. The spirited discussion, with ample time for audience questions, will focus on social media addiction, the spread of misinformation, and how to tackle the most pressing problems we face online.

The issues being covered are based on themes highlighted in the Netflix documentary, The Social Dilemma. The documentary-drama hybrid explores the dangerous human impact of social networking, with tech experts sounding the alarm on their own creations. An abbreviated version of the documentary will be shown to kickoff the event.
