I hope the fall semester has started smoothly for you and everything is settling in. I have been very excited to see students and colleagues in person for the first time in what feels like forever.

I have a few updates to share with you. As many of you may be aware, Calida Jones left the university over the summer. Calida's contributions and guidance were invaluable through a very challenging year. We are all indebted to her selfless service to UHart and our group. Calida will be greatly missed. In the wake of Calida's departure, I'm happy to announce that Schauntice Marshall has graciously agreed to serve as co-chair of our affinity group. Schauntice brings a great deal of enthusiasm and I very much look forward to working along side her to serve you over the coming year. Please join me in welcoming Schauntice aboard. Now that we are allowed to be within six feet of one another, I am very pleased to schedule our first gathering of the 2021-2022 academic year.

Please join us in the Private Dining Room of University Commons for lunch on Friday Sept. 17 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition to catching up with one another, we also have a planned discussion. As we transition into a new academic year, Najeia Mention, MSW, MPH, UHart CAPS Psychotherapist, will facilitate a discussion around self-care and help us implement new or adjust our existing self-care plans.

Please rsvp to smarshall@hartford.edu or mathomas@hartford.edu by Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021.
