Over the next year, Dr. David Stender, Director of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution for the Division of Student Success, will oversee the implementation of a host of outreach activities made possible by a $28,927 grant distributed through Wheeler Clinic’s Connecticut Healthy Campus Initiative. Activities include conducting student trainings on opioid and stimulant misuse, safe medicine storage and disposal instruction for Public Safety staff and student leadership groups, and organizing tabling events to distribute materials aimed at raising public awareness around these important health and wellbeing issues. Grant funds will also support emergency preparedness measures including purchasing additional Narcan for Public Safety officers. Finally, Dr. Stender will guide activities to encourage student participation in the 2022 CORE Alcohol and Drug Survey in order to reach completion targets resulting in valuable data to inform long-term education and prevention strategy.
