Hillyer's Ju-Yong Ha Has Article Published in The Review of Korean Studies

Hillyer College Assistant Professor of Music Ju-Yong Ha’s article, Female Masculinity and Cultural Symbolism: A History of Yeoseong gukgeuk, the All-Female Cast Theatrical Genre, was recently published in The Review of Korean Studies. The international journal is recognized as the best international journal on Korean studies.

Ha’s article explains how the construct of gender roles in musical performance in Korea in the 1950's was re-interpreted by female performers, thus disrupting social and cultural heroic masculinity. You can access the full article on the publication’s website.
