Join us on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the lower level of the Harrison Library for the unveiling of ‘Remapping the Field of Art: A Hartford Art School Junior Painting Studio Mural’.

Celebrate with Art Professor Billie Lee and her class who painted this striking and poignant mural. Please join us if you are free as we host a reception for the art students and faculty’s contribution.

"Remapping the Field of Art." The mural aims to memorialize artists who have made a significant contribution to the field of art but have been marginalized and underrecognized due to their race, class, gender, or sexual orientation. The mural asks, how can we map an alternative art history? And how would this change the landscape of art? By foregrounding these artists, we hope to raise their visibility towards a more inclusive and diverse art curriculum in the present and future. From names of artists contributed by faculty, staff, and students at the Hartford Art School, the mural will depict contour portraits of these artists connected by a single lyrical line against a design based on maps of our campus."

Free refreshments will be served.
