Staff Council Updates

July 01, 2022
Submitted By: Staff Council E-Board

Here are a few updates from the Staff Council, as we are not holding a meeting in July:

Voting for staff delegates are open now and will be open until July 31. These are your staff representatives on the Benefits Task Force, DEI Task Force, Faculty Senate, and the Resources Planning and Priorities Committee. Please vote! Here is the ballot https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PKLGVDQ.

The E-Board met with President Woodward for the first time. A few key points from that meeting:

Salary increases

  • The 2% increases will go into effect for all staff August 15/16.
  • They’ve contracted with a company to do salary benchmarking with peer institutions. This will provide updated and better data than what was collected in-house by HRD a few years ago, and will help them decide how to distribute the additional $500,000 set aside for salary adjustments. Data from the study will be shared.

An announcement from Greg with more details is forthcoming.

  • We are still trying to get a staff representative on the Board of Regents. Greg supports this and plans to bring it to the Board.
  • Extra days/hours off

We asked for more notice when the university closes extra days (e.g. Memorial Day weekend) and for clarification on using university close for the p.m. summer Friday closings.

An announcement is forthcoming with more information on both issues.

  • The student numbers for the upcoming school year are looking very good so far.
  • The E-Board will work on prioritizing the suggestions we received on improvements for staff, and will meet again with Greg and Jen Conley to discuss further. These suggestions include rolling over vacation time through the summer and other suggestions from our contact form and the June Staff Council meeting.

We want your input! Please email staff@hartford.edu or use our anonymous contact form. We are especially interested in:

  • Suggestions for things that would improve staff life at the university.
  • Examples of policies that are not applied equally across people or departments. (Please provide as much detail as you can. We will anonymize everything before speaking with Greg and Jen.)
Finally, please note that Lisa Wollenberg has changed her name to Lisa Read. Her new email address is Lread@hartford.edu.
