Applications opened on Nov. 1, for the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP), a free six-week enrichment program for students interested in careers in health care. Students can explore their interests in medicine, dentistry, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, and more. SHPEP takes place at 12 partner academic institutions around the country and offers students the opportunity to develop health care skills, plan their academic journeys, get clinical exposure, and network with professionals.

The program includes housing, meals, a stipend, and travel assistance.  Applicants should be current freshmen or sophomores and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5. The program is designed to support students underrepresented in the health professions, including those racially/ethnically underrepresented or from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.

Many UHart students have participated in SHPEP over the years and have gained valuable experience from the program. Read more about Akosua Adu’s recent SHPEP experience here.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 5, 2023. For more details, visit https://www.shpep.org/
