NSF Research in Undergraduate Institutions (RUIs) or Research Opportunity Awards (ROAs):

Next Due Date: Rolling Submission

Duration: Usually 3 years

Amount: $75,000+

The RUI opportunity aims to: (1) support high-quality research by faculty at predominantly undergraduate institutions (PUI); (2) strengthen the research environment in academic departments that are primarily oriented toward undergraduate instruction; and (3) promote the integration of research and education of undergraduate students. The overriding purpose of RUIs is to support faculty research, thereby maintaining faculty members’ intellectual vibrancy in the classroom and within their research community, although the involvement of undergraduate students in research is an important feature of RUI. RUI awards augment the educational strengths of primarily undergraduate institutions by providing students with research-rich learning environments.

NSF Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE:EDU):

Next Due Date: January 18, 2023

Duration: Usually 3 years

Amount $400,000+

The IUSE:EDU program supports projects designed to contribute to a future in which all undergraduate students are fully engaged in their STEM learning. The IUSE:EDU program promotes (1) Engaged Student Learning: the development, testing, and use of teaching practices curricular innovations that will engage students and improve learning, persistence and retention in STEM, and (2) Institutional and Community Transformation: the transformation of colleges and universities to implement and sustain highly effective STEM teaching and learning.

The January due date is for Institutional and Community Transformation (Capacity- Building and Level 1) proposals and Engaged Student Learning (Level 1) proposals.
