Please join us for a talk from Emily Meachon, '16 UHart alumna, University of Basel, Switzerland.

Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a very common but lesser-known neurodevelopmental disorder that primarily involves delays in motor learning and difficulties with coordination. It is now apparent that DCD has a complex array of secondary problems that span far beyond motor symptoms and impact every area of life. Some of these secondary problems overlap with better-known conditions, such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD), posing major challenges in differential diagnosis. This talk will provide an overview of DCD and highlight how open questions relevant to research and practice are being addressed in current research. Several studies which highlight the gaps in detecting DCD and investigations to better differentiate DCD and ADHD will be discussed. Research approaches range from self-report to neuroscientific (i.e., EEG) through the lens of various psychological paradigms including features from cognitive, behavioral, developmental, clinical, and neuroscientific fields.
