Hartt Tribute to MichaelJohn McGann

The Hartt School Theatre Division honors, in memoriam, the great teacher, director, and friend of the school, MichaelJohn McGann. He was born on Feb. 2, 1952, and passed away Dec. 28, 2022, in Brooklyn, New York.

He was an extraordinary man of the theatre and communicated his love and knowledge to many of our students. He performed on Broadway and in the regional theatre for many years. Both at our University of Hartford campus and at the Monomoy Theatre on Cape Cod, McGann was a beacon of humanity to a legion of Hartt students. 

You could always count on him for a wise thought, a laugh, and a word of encouragement. “We shall not see his like again.” As a school, we are very grateful to have known him.
