Public Safety Winter Update

February 22, 2023
Submitted By: Department of Public Safety

Whether a child or an adult, we’re often encouraged to try and figure things out on our own—to learn, research, and come up with solutions.

But when it comes to their safety, students should never hesitate to ask for help. The University of Hartford’s Department of Public Safety is here to ensure students feel protected, to offer a helping hand, and to provide ample professional resources for a variety of situations.

Here’s a refresher on ways Public Safety and students can work together for a safe campus community:

  • Download and use the LiveSafe app. It features an emergency button that connects right to dispatch, and has an anonymous tip option.

  • Students may call Public Safety for an escort to their dorm or car if they are nervous about walking alone, especially at night.

  • Reach the department through the emergency number at 860.768.7777 or the non-emergency line at 860.768.7985.

  • Take notice of the blue lights on poles across campus—they feature a callbox button that allows a user to immediately talk to Public Safety.

  • Attend trainings and classes held by Public Safety. Some examples are “Be Aware Training” about situational awareness, as well as a first aid awareness class, but many more are available.

  • Follow all traffic rules, which include complete stops at our stop signs and respecting the 15mph speed limit.

The Department of Public Safety is in full operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with professional officers and support staff.

While we frequently partner with local law enforcement, our officers regularly participate in training and simulations to prepare for emergent situations and threats to campus, just as municipal police departments do.

We’re always here to assist you with questions and concerns. Please don’t hesitate to reach out anytime.

Thank you,

Michael Kaselouskas
Chief, Department of Public Safety
