Bang on a Can All-Stars is the third performance in this season’s Garmany Chamber Music Series, held on March 9. This event is also a celebration of the life and work of bassist Robert Black, a founding member of the All-Stars, who is retiring from his Hartt faculty position after 29 years. Also featured will be legendary Bang founders David Lang, Julia Wolfe, and Michael Gordon.

Bang on a Can All-Starts is recognized worldwide for their dynamic live performances and recordings of today’s most innovative music. The New York Times calls them “a fiercely aggressive group, combining the power and punch of a rock band with the precision and clarity of a chamber ensemble.”

Founded in 2009, and hailed by one critic as the “who’s who of American chamber music,” The Garmany Chamber Music Series is one of The Hartt School's signature activities. The series is recognized as one of Connecticut's premier live music attractions, presenting four concerts annually, and is dedicated to bringing the widest possible range of distinguished small ensembles and recitalists to the UHart campus. The series is generously supported by the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

The Bang on a Can All-Stars performance will be held on Thursday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m., in Lincoln Theater. University of Hartford faculty, staff, and students can receive a free ticket, and students of any age can also get free tickets by selecting the Student ticket when reserving seats.
