Paul Lavoie, Connecticut’s chief manufacturing officer, visited the University of Hartford on March 6, to learn more about academic programs and how they are evolving alongside industry needs.

Lavoie toured UHart’s College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture with Dean Hisham Alnajjar, State Representative Emmanuel Sanchez, and Joseph Sylvestro ’90, senior vice president of aftermarket and sustainment global operations at Pratt and Whitney. He also met with Barney School of Business Dean Stephen Mulready.

As they visited the robotics lab, Lavoie had the chance to chat with students about their projects, career goals, and opportunities in Connecticut. He also stopped by aerospace, mechatronics, cybersecurity, MakerSpace, and Internet of Things labs and classrooms.

The state’s manufacturing companies are experiencing great change in what’s been dubbed Industry 4.0, and CETA has worked to provide students with programs that will successfully position them for in-demand careers. Alnajjar has also been addressing the matter at the state level as a member of the state’s Commerce Committee’s Manufacturing Technology Working Group.

Paul Lavoie met with University leaders while learning more about how students become career-ready.
