Sports Center Student Worker(s) of the Month

March 13, 2023
Submitted By: Kyle Wasilkowski

The UHart Sports Center proudly honors our student workers' contributions and accomplishments. Our Sports Center, intramurals, and athletics could only function with a team of over 100 students working as building supervisors, intramural and athletic game day staff, lifeguards, front desk, and fitness center workers.

The Student Worker of the Month program recognizes students who go above and beyond their job duties and that focus on having a positive mindset, respect, achievement, determination, and opportunities. Outstanding students are nominated by professional staff members each month. The Student Worker of the Month is awarded a gift and recognized with publicity on TV screens within the Sports Center and other platforms across campus.

Ben and Matt are our first Co-Student Workers of the Month, as it was a tough decision for the team to pick one for February. Ben and Matt have gone above and beyond by helping whenever they can within the Sports Center, specifically with our intramural program. Without officials for our intramural leagues, we would be unable to run games without them. Ben and Matt have a passion for all sports, and having them officiate for intramurals has been a big win for the Recreation Department. They take their roles in a professional matter no matter if they are working intramural, inside the Sports Center, or in the classroom.

Matt and Ben both have a bright future following graduation from the University of Hartford with their work ethic, passion for helping others, and the will to succeed when curveballs are thrown into their life. Ben is part of the Men’s Soccer Club team, and Matt is a Distance Runner on the Track & Field team. Both of them balancing classes, work, and activities can be challenging for some, but this duo finds a way to make it work, which will be helpful in the future. We thank Ben and Matt for being student workers within the Sports Center and wish them the best of luck!
