FCLD to Purge Spring '20 Through Summer '21 Collaborate Recordings on June 28

May 30, 2023
Submitted By: Lorelle Wilson

Instructors are aware that FCLD purges Blackboard courses twice a year, typically in September and in March. This is part of our regular ongoing Blackboard maintenance, and these are academic CRN-based courses that were taught over a year ago, so they are past the deadline for incompletes or grade disputes. Collaborate recordings from the COVID-19 period of Spring 2020 through Summer 2021 are no longer accessible by instructors because courses from these terms have been removed from Blackboard, but Collaborate recordings from these terms have not yet been deleted. Please immediately notify FCLD by email if a Collaborate recording made during that time (which has no student input or identifying information within it) is required for future use. These older Collaborate recordings will be permanently deleted on June 28, 2023.

Requests to have a recording downloaded and retained should be made by June 15, by email to fcld@hartford.edu. FCLD will not store downloaded recordings, so the requestor should plan on saving them to OneDrive or alternative storage.

Blackboard guidelines state that Instructors who wish to maintain copies of any recordings that do not contain student input or identifying information should download them at the end of each term using these instructions. Faculty who have any questions about downloading Collaborate recordings should contact the Faculty Center for Learning Development (FCLD) at 860.768.4661 or fcld@hartford.edu for assistance.

Collaborate was purchased for teaching live/synchronous courses during COVID and was never intended to be used to create reusable, instructional videos, or permanent recordings of lectures. We have exceeded storage limits as a result. Instructors who wish to create permanent instructional videos should use Kaltura or Microsoft Teams. FCLD staff are available to assist faculty using Kaltura or Teams, fcld@hartford.edu.

Thanks for your help.
