Jennifer Petro Selected to Direct Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology
The Department of Psychology and the Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology (GIPP) at the University of Hartford are pleased to announce that Jennifer Petro, PsyD, has been selected to be the new Director of GIPP beginning on July 1, 2023.
Dr. Petro joined the University of Hartford in 2021 as Associate Director of GIPP, overseeing the program’s practicum clinical placement program. She has been selected to step into the role of Director, replacing long-time Director Dr. John Mehm who retired in January.
Dr. Petro received her Doctor of Psychology degree in Clinical Psychology at Baylor University. Prior to joining the University of Hartford, she served as the Assistant Director, Director of Training at the University of Connecticut’s Student Health and Wellness-Mental Health department where she established an APA-accredited internship program and oversaw the psychology practicum and social work internship programs. She has a long-standing commitment and passion for supporting the professional development and education of future clinicians.
The Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology is an APA-approved doctoral program in Clinical Psychology. The program has over 100 active students and grants over 20 doctoral degrees every year. Dr. Petro brings a wealth of experience in teaching, administration, and clinical practice. We are excited that she will be bringing her expertise and enthusiasm to this program, department, and the University.
