Two longtime faculty members, Doris Kang Kosloff and Maggie Francis will retire at the end of June. They have nearly 60 years of service combined to the University and have extensive careers in their respective industries.

Doris Kang Kosloff joined The Hartt School in 2004 as an associate professor as well as director of the Hartt Opera Theater, where she is also the music director and conductor. In 2014, she became director of the vocal studies division. Kosloff has also served as artistic director of Opera Connecticut, executive director of the Hartford Conservatory, artistic director and managing director of Connecticut Opera and the Waterbury Opera Theatre, among numerous other positions.

Maggie Francis began teaching in The Hartt Community Division in 1975 and shortly thereafter started teaching in The Hartt School. She became chair of the Community Division’s Piano Department in 1980, joined the ranks of the full-time faculty at Hartt a decade later, and went on to co-chair and ultimately chair the piano department in the early 2000s. She taught countless students over the years ranging in age from 4-80. In addition to her piano teaching, she also enjoyed teaching Piano Pedagogy and Collaborative piano courses. Over the years Maggie spent 10 years as the chair of chamber music, followed by an additional 10 years as the director of the performance 20/20 program.

Dale Merrill, dean of The Hartt School sums up their service. “The Hartt School will greatly miss these two iconic women who have been members of The Hartt School family for more than 30 years. Each had the opportunity to work with Moshe Paranov, a founding leader (with Julius Hartt) of The Hartt School. It was always fun to sit and listen to the stories of their early days at the School. Doris and Maggie have worked with and taught many, many singers and pianists over their careers at Hartt, and their contributions to the School’s rich history are immeasurable. Thank you, Doris and Maggie, for all your service to Hartt. We wish you well as you continue onto the next part of your artistic journeys.”
