Ivana Milanovic, professor of mechanical engineering, CETA, Sunil Kumar, professor of mechanical engineering, NYU Abu Dhabi, Tom Eppes, professor of electrical & computer engineering, CETA, and Kalyan Goparaju, senior engineer at ANSYS, Inc. presented at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) – the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) – the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers (KSME) Joint Fluids Engineering (AJK) conference in Osaka, Japan. The AJK Fluids 2023 conference brought together international researchers and engineers focusing on fluid flow in a variety of applications. The objectives of the meeting were to provide a forum for the presentation of state-of-the-art research and opportunities for technical interactions among participants.

The presentation, ‘Industry Certification in Simulation Technology as a part of the Lecture Course,’ builds on the authors’ previous work on the use of simulations in lecture courses and expands it to include industry certification. The significance of the approach and its success are illustrated with qualitative and quantitative evidence. Qualitative data provide examples of student work, while quantitative assessment of students’ understanding and confidence in the comprehension of select concepts includes grades, student surveys, and course evaluations.

This year marked the 20th consecutive year of Milanovic’s activities on the Fluid Mechanics Technical Committee and the first year as the Chair of the ASME Fluids Engineering Division Honors & Awards Committee.
