I am pleased to announce that Nicholas (Nick) Wharton will serve as Interim Director of the Harrison Libraries, beginning July 15, 2023.

Nick joined the University of Hartford in 2006 as a Reference and Circulation Librarian, and since 2007 has served as the Head of Reference and Public Services for Mortensen Library. As department head, he oversees library instruction, reference and circulation desk services, collection development in particular disciplines, online database access, stacks maintenance, course reserves, and the monitoring of the library’s electronic inquiries. He serves on the Library Council and the Collection Development Committee, as well as chairs the Web Committee. Prior to the University of Hartford, he served in a variety of librarian and administrative roles at Harvard University and Brown University. Nick has published chapters on library building and construction for the Magazines for Libraries for more than 15 years. Here on campus, he is a frequent presenter at new faculty workshops and the Greenberg Center’s Holocaust Educators’ Workshop. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Bates College, a master’s degree in English Education from Rhode Island College, and a master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Rhode Island.

Nick will be succeeding Elizabeth Dill who is leaving the University of Hartford to serve as Dean of the University Library at California State University Long Beach.

We will be launching a national search for a Director of Harrison Libraries this fall.

Taylor St. Pierre, currently a Reference Librarian, will serve as the Interim Head of Reference and Public Services in Nick’s stead. Taylor joined the University of Hartford in 2019 and has overseen initiatives in open educational resources, serves on the Collection Development Committee and Staff Council, and collects materials for History, Sociology, Anthropology, and the Law. Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and earned a master’s degree in Library and Information Studies and a master’s degree in History, both from the University of Rhode Island. We will do a search for a temporary Reference Librarian in order to fill Taylor’s current role.

Please join me in congratulating Elizabeth, Nick, and Taylor on their new positions, and wishing them all well.
