Assistant Professor Deepa Fadnis is an expert on the impact of social media; in fact, she teaches a course called “Hashtag Activism and the Power of Social Media,” which studies cultural movements that have evolved thanks to the most popular platforms.

She explained the newest social media tool, Threads, on Fox 61 just as interest in the app began to explode. Fadnis, who teaches communication in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hartford, said in the news segment that the app is a mix of Twitter and Instagram with its text, visual, and audio formats. As Twitter users have gotten frustrated with policy changes, Threads quickly gained momentum, she explained.

Lon Seidman ’98, a local tech expert and an alumni of UHart’s Student Television Network, was also interviewed for the story and said it’s too early to tell if Threads will become a mainstay in the social media realm, or if the arena is too populated with other major apps already.
