Each year, the Barney School of Business brings to campus accomplished alumni, successful business people, and community leaders to campus to share their stories and offer advice to their students.

On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the Entrepreneurial Studies program was delighted to introduce guest speaker, Trisha Bailey, who is a local entrepreneur with a global impact. Connecticut State Senator Douglas McCrory welcomed Bailey to the audience and generously donated a copy of Bailey’s book to all in attendance.

Bailey has recently published a motivational memoir chronicling her personal tragedies and professional triumphs — from her humble beginnings on the Caribbean Island of Jamaica to becoming not only the wealthiest woman on that island but also one of the wealthiest women in the United States. She was the youngest stockbroker (at age 22) at Salomon Smith Barney and the only black woman in all of New England.

Bailey plays an integral role across Connecticut’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, and we were delighted to build this connection between her and the UHart student body. Bailey inspired students with her story and inspiring entrepreneurial spirit.

This event was hosted by ENT 414 - Seminar in Entrepreneurship at Barney, where seniors in the Entrepreneurial Studies program engage in live-client consulting projects, and was organized by UHart’s Chris Grant, Assistant Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement.
