Fuel Cell Project Construction Area to Take Shape in Lot C

As part of our campus sustainability program, we are partnering with HyAxiom, a Connecticut-based company, to install a 1.84-megawatt fuel cell in parking lot C on the southeastern side of campus.

HyAxiom (a Doosan Company) is starting to mobilize construction equipment and materials to parking lot C at the end of this week. They will begin to set up temporary construction fencing on Friday, Sept. 22, in the area shown on this map to isolate their Phase 1 construction area from the general parking areas of Lot C.

Over the next few days, any vehicles parked inside the proposed construction fencing limits will be asked to move and park in other areas of Lot C outside of the fenced in construction zone. Public Safety will be assisting our contractors by contacting anyone that need their vehicles moved. During the first few days that the fencing is installed, the fence gates will remain open. If your vehicle is parked inside of the fence limits or temporary construction barriers, please move your vehicle to another parking space in Lot C.

Construction of the Fuel Cell is expected to run through the Fall Semester and continue at least through the semester break.

In using fuel cell technology, there will be a significantly reduced load on the electrical grid that serves campus and nearby geographic areas, which in turn will lower the chances of brownouts during times of peak electricity demand.

If you have any questions about the Fuel Cell project itself, please contact Chris Dupuis in Facilities at cdupuis@hartford.edu or at 860.768.7866. If you have any parking questions, please contact Public Safety at 860.768.7985.
