In early August 2023, Hartt composer, staff member, and alum, Michael Stubblefield DMA '19, received first prize in the Joseph Dorfman Memorial Composer's Competition at the International Summer Academy of Music (ISAM), in Ochsenhausen, Germany, for the piece titled, "The Sludge Dirge," for bass clarinet, violin, cello, and percussion.

This is Michael's third time placing in the Composer's Competition at ISAM, each progressing to the next prize every two years. In 2019, Michael was awarded third prize, and two years later in 2021, he was awarded second prize.

In addition to receiving a full scholarship for the following year's masterclass, the first-prize winner will be on the jury for the next competition in 2024.

ISAM is open to composers of all ages and levels. More information can be found on the website, here.
