Storm Advisory

UHart will remain closed on Tuesday, Feb. 24. There will be no in-person classes held on Tuesday. Please note that when a campus closing prevents an in-person class from meeting at its scheduled time, faculty may opt to conduct classes or provide assignments online. Students should check Blackboard and their email regularly on such days to learn of any alternate arrangements. Online and remote courses are not affected by campus closings and meet as scheduled.

Parking lot snow removal is complete. Please return all vehicles to assigned lots between now and 11 p.m. Students who are arriving back on campus can now proceed directly to their assigned lot. See parking relocation instructions for residential students.

Reflecting on the Loss of The Hartt School's Glen Adsit

Dear Members of the UHart Community:

The Hartt School is profoundly saddened to share that faculty member Glen Adsit suddenly passed away last week. Glen was a long-time, esteemed member of the Hartt community who started his tenure here as director of bands in 2000. He was also director of HCD Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble (GHYWE) and co-director of HCD Capitol Symphonic Winds—he touched the lives of so many.

Glen’s passion for music and music education were unquenchable even to the end of his life. He never stopped planning for the next concert, the next recording, the next great opportunity for our students. I heard Glen speak on many occasions to potential students, families, and potential new faculty members that Hartt is like one big family—and indeed Glen made us all feel like a part of this great musical family. Without a doubt, Glen’s passing will leave a huge void at The Hartt School.

Hartt plans to honor Glen’s remarkable life and his significant bond with The Hartt School during the upcoming Collage Concert on Friday, Feb. 16, and Saturday, Feb. 17. This event is free and open to all. The performances will be dedicated to the memory of our beloved colleague, mentor, and teacher. A celebration of life and tribute concert to Glen will be in April. Glen will be greatly missed, and Hartt will bear the imprint of his many accomplishments and service for years to come.

We expect a full obituary to be published by the family shortly; please watch UNotes for a detailed remembrance story immediately following.

Sincerely,

Dale A. Merrill
Dean, The Hartt School
