Hillyer's Bilal Sekou Offers Media Commentary on Local Resolutions on the Israel-Gaza War

Hillyer College Associate Professor of Politics and Government Bilal Sekou offered his political commentary on the significance of towns and cities adopting non-binding resolutions calling for a cease-fire in Gaza.

In a Feb. 28 story in the Hartford Courant, Sekou said international issues often call people to action more than the local issues that affect their everyday lives. “The people who are more likely to show up to government meetings are single-issue folks that are very interested and have a strong position,” he said.

On March 7, Sekou served as a panelist on WNPR’s Where We Live. Appearing on the program with other professors, local and national reporters, and business leaders, Sekou said the issue is a concern for people around the world. He went on to explain that it good for communities to have this kind of discussion, even with strong emotions on both sides. Sekou pointed out the issue will also affect our presidential politics this year. Listen to the program in its entirety.
