Empowering Connecticut's Classrooms Through IoT Innovation

flyer

The University of Hartford has partnered with Infosys Foundation USA to launch a new professional development initiative focused on bringing Internet of Things (IoT) technology into Connecticut high school classrooms.

The program will train 20 high school computer science teachers through a three-day immersive workshop in CETA’s Innovation Lab in the Hursey Center. Educators will build and program a fully functional IoT smart mirror using Raspberry Pi and sensors, strengthen their understanding of IoT fundamentals, and develop classroom-ready lesson plans aligned with state and national standards. Each teacher will leave with a completed prototype and reusable hardware kit, directly impacting more than 1,000 students annually.

Led by Andrew Jung, Chair of the Department of Computing Sciences, with pedagogical leadership from John Tusch, President of CSTA Connecticut, and strategic oversight from CETA Dean Hisham Alnajjar, the initiative reflects UHart’s commitment to innovative, industry-aligned education.

Through support from the Infosys Foundation USA, including access to its Infosys Springboard digital learning platform, mentorship from Infosys professionals, and a site visit to Infosys Hartford office, this collaboration strengthens ties between the University, K–12 educators, and Connecticut’s growing technology sector. This added exposure to real-world technology environment helps educators translate workforce readiness skills back into their classrooms.
