Small Changes, Big Difference: Ensuring Digital Accessibility for Your Students

As we move toward the end of the semester, the Office of Academic Technology & Digital Innovation wants to highlight the vital importance of ensuring your course materials meet ADA 2.0 compliance standards. Creating accessible content isn't just a technical requirement—it’s a commitment to providing an equitable learning environment where every student, regardless of how they interact with digital media, can succeed.

To support you in this effort, we are hosting two final "Ally Up!" workshops in April. These sessions are designed to give you "quick wins" — simple, high-impact adjustments that make your Blackboard content work for everyone.

Join us for hands-on guidance on using Blackboard Ally to spot and fix accessibility issues in minutes:

  • Tuesday, April 7 | 3 p.m.–4 p.m. | Woods Classroom, Harrison Libraries

  • Wednesday, April 22 | 6:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. | Virtual (Link provided upon RSVP)

Topics covered include:

  • Adding Alternative Text for images.

  • Quick OCR and language fixes for PDFs.

  • Proper use of Headings in Documents & PowerPoints.

  • Accessible Tables and Video Caption editing.

To Register: RSVP to actech@hartford.edu and a calendar invitation will be sent to you.
