Hartt Community Division Partners With the Herbie Hancock Institute

The HCD Jazz/Global Department has announced a new partnership with the Herbie Hancock Institute, as their peer-to-peer jazz program visited schools in Hartford, New Haven, and Bridgeport. As part of the partnership, the Institute held a master class led by world-renowned saxophonist Antonio Hart on Wednesday, May 20 for students from the Community Division as well as invited guests from area Alliance Schools and the Artist’s Collective.

Rich Goldstein, director of the HCD Jazz/Global Music Program, assisted the Institute in arranging for resources and logistics for their visit to the East Coast. Goldstein states, “The peer-to-peer program aligns with the goals of the HCD Outreach program and we are honored to be able to assist them in this endeavor. The opportunity to work with the internationally-acclaimed Antonio Hart was a lifetime memory for our students.”

Combining performance with educational information, these “informances” were presented by the Institute’s National Peer-to-Peer Jazz Quintet, comprising five of the country’s most gifted high school music students alongside Mr. Hart, Kansas City jazz and blues vocalist Lisa Henry, and renowned jazz educator Dr. JB Dyas.
