On Tuesday, July 14, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed legislation expanding insurance coverage for activity-specific prosthetic devices, helping ensure individuals with limb loss have access to the specialized prostheses they need for recreation and everyday life—from running and cycling to swimming and other activities that support healthy, active lifestyles. The new law recognizes that one prosthesis cannot meet every need, removing barriers to greater mobility, independence, and quality of life.
The signing ceremony took place at the Hanger Clinic/University of Hartford collaborative prosthetics and orthotics facility in Rocky Hill, Connecticut.
UHart is especially proud to recognize Lindi Mitsou, clinical/applied associate professor in the University of Hartford's Prosthetics & Orthotics program in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions. Lindi is a member of So Every BODY Can Move, the national coalition that helped drive the passage of this legislation. The organization is dedicated to creating a more equitable world where every person, regardless of disability, has access to the mobility and independence they deserve.
Congratulations to everyone whose dedication made this important milestone possible!
